Our 2019 Fall Iyengar Yoga Session runs from 23 September - 21 December

Class Descriptions

Yoga Classes are held as multiple-week, progressive courses or “sessions”, or you can participate on a drop-in basis. Classes and sessions provide a dynamic and challenging atmosphere in which to cultivate the highest functioning of body and mind. Expect an emphasis on precise alignment, carefully sequenced postures to maximize benefits and an exploration of yoga philosophy to reveal the full depth of transformation Iyengar Yoga has to offer.

Level I: For all levels of students who want to master the basics of Iyengar Yoga. Work from the essential categories of postures and pranayama is emphasized with a view to empowering students to establish a home practice.

Level II: Class for students with some experience of Iyengar Yoga. Familiarity with standing postures, basic alignment, and how to set-up shoulderstand is required. As is a willingness to practice inversions and backbends.

Level III: For continuing students of the Iyengar method (suggested 2 years Iyengar yoga practice as a pre-requisite). Deeper and subtler work in all categories will be involved, as will all inversions for at least 5 minutes.

Gentle Beginner: With a focus on the fundamentals of Iyengar Yoga, these classes are ideal for newcomers to the practice, students with particular needs or limitations, or students from other methods who want to ensure their practice foundations are safe and sound.

Private Lessons: A one-on-one session with an Iyengar Yoga instructor is a premium customized experience. As a result, you are empowered to specifically address your goals, physical strengths, limitations, and needs specific to your level of practice. For students who are new to yoga, may be experiencing injuries or some other physical concern, or need a customized day and time for class, private lessons are the best way to set a solid foundation for your yoga practice. For experienced yoga students, private lessons can add a depth and refinement to your yoga practice to dramatically enhance its rewards and opportunities.
